Hello Tanya. I was super excited to see that someone has tent camped at Fort Wilderness. We are sort of new to camping and have 3 small children under the age of six. I want to camp but hubby and kids want to stay at a resort. How is camping there?

    Hi Laura!

Thanks so much for writing to me!  In my opinion, Fort Wilderness is one of the most fun-filled resorts on property.  There are literally so many activities and fun ways to spend your time there, that you can almost (ok, I said 'almost') never actually leave and visit the parks. Some of our favorite activities are the Chip & Dale Campfire and Sing Along, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, horseback riding and the carriage rides.  (I better stop, or I'll run out of room!)  I haven't tent-camped since I was a kid visiting the Fort, but I can tell you it was wonderful.  The sites are immaculate as are the comfort stations.    The Fort has a huge following of avid campers, who vacation here year after year.  At night, you'll see large groups of very happy families getting together for cook-outs at their sites.  It's the perfect balance between a trip to the great outdoors and an action-packed Disney vacation.  More recently, we've stayed in the Cabins at the Fort, and absolutely loved them!  If your hubby and kids are itching for a more traditional "room" rather than a site, these might be a perfect compromise.  The cabins are perfect for a larger family, as there is a full-sized bed, bunks and another murphy-style bed that sleeps two in the living room.  In addition, there's a fully-stocked kitchen (with a dishwasher and dining table) that can help save on meals.

My Disney mom pal Whitney is an avid camper, and she and her family drive their RV to the Fort on a regular basis.  Feel free to send more specific questions to either of us if you have any additional questions!

    Have a wonderful trip!
