Hi Tanya! Any ideas for entertaining 2 boys, ages 6 and 9, while standing in the park entry lines for 40 minutes? (We like to be early.) What can we do for fun for that time? There may be more questions coming! Our trip is getting closer! Wheeeee!

    Hi Christine!

Bring on the questions fellow "boy mom"!  Can I start by saying that I'm routinely made fun of for being early?  I was an hour early for my wedding!  I think it's great that you want to get a head start on your days at the park.  Here are some strategies I've employed while we had to wait at Disney:

    • Pick up park maps (available at your resort) for each kid and bring a highlighter before heading out.  My kids love to help "strategize our plan of attack" while waiting on line.
    • Play games as the crowd starts to line up.  It sounds cheesy, but that's what family vacations are for.  Things we've done included "I Spy", "First kid to count 25 Mickey T-shirts", and a game where I fill a small plastic opaque container (like a film canister or a plastic Easter egg)  with lots of tiny things (tic tac, paper clip, rubber band, etc.) and the kids have to guess what's inside.  I can usually "squeeze" about 50 tiny things, and they love it!
    • Small hand-held electronics.  I was against these for the longest time, but now we let the kids use them when we have to wait, as it keeps us all happier!
    • Look for Hidden Mickeys(there are thousands of images of Mickey concealed all over the parks)
    • If your kids are pin traders, bring them along and "trade" with the Cast Members working the lines.

I hope some of my ideas help!  Feel free to send along more questions.  Have a wonderful vacation!
