Laurie from OH Asked Note: This answer was provided prior to the change to planDisney and may still contain references to Disney Parks Moms Panel.

We will be taking our 1 yr old grandson to Disney World for his first time. We will have 7 adults. My question is about rider switch. Can half of our group get FP for a ride, then the other half ride the same ride with rider switch without FP? Thank you

Thanks for returning to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Laurie!  My family can’t take a trip to Walt Disney World Resort without using Rider Switch Service since my little girl is still Piglet-sized and can’t yet ride much more than Goofy’s Barnstormer.

The math in your case breaks down to a little more than half of your group needing to ride in “Group 1” while you wait with the baby boy. Rider Switch allows the waiting chaperone to take two others with them via the FastPass+ queue to enjoy the attraction while Group 1 takes over childcare duties. You’ll want to make 5 FP+ reservations for members of your party as Group 1 to stand in line. Of course, when you use Rider Switch, your entire party of 8 + baby will need to see the Cast Member at the front of the line in order to receive the Rider Switch pass on your MagicBands or cards. After Group 1 of 5 adults ride, the second group of 3 adults will NOT need a FP+ as Rider Switch enables them to use that queue complementarily.

If I can help you find other family fun that will cross multiple generations, please let me know. My mom always enjoys a bite sized trip with my kids and I love to watch the magic through their eyes! ~ Lindsey P.
