We are taking our 8 year old granddaughter. Any special entertainment options beyond the rides? Are meet and greets worth it? Special dining options? Dress up boutique where they can be pampered, etc?

Hi, Judy! There are so many unforgettable experiences awaiting your granddaughter! Character meets are absolutely worth it in my book. Are there any characters that she especially enjoys? You will want to make a point of stopping by those meet and greets, some of which are FastPass+ enabled. Pick up a Times Guide at each park so you can both see what meet and greets will be held that day.

There are several dress-up options for your granddaughter. Our girls have always enjoyed the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. If she has outgrown the princess dress stage, The Mermaid Package at The Pirates League is a perfect way for girls to still feel special without all the frills. At the Harmony Barber Shop in Magic Kingdom Park, she can have her hair done in a simple style and accessorized with paints or confetti.

I noticed when my older daughter turned eight that she still loved to run from attraction to attraction, but her interest in the parks changed. As she became interested in how the attractions worked, we experienced together some of the tours available for kids her age. This was a great way of helping her learn more about this wonderful place that was built for not only imagination but discovery.

When planning your dining options, look to your granddaughter’s preferences, but kick it up a notch with interesting twists. There are plenty of seafood places, but only Coral Reef Restaurant in Epcot offers a table under the sea! Each time we visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we have to dine at 50’s Prime Time Cafe or Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, both of which are thoroughly entertaining meals for kids of all ages. Perhaps a seating at the Garden View Tea Room may be her cup of tea!

Judy, I hope some of these ideas help you start planning an unforgettable visit. If you have any questions on any of this, please stop by and see me again!
