Hello! Taking a 1 year old to DW next summer. Any suggestions on how to prepare him for rides/fireworks/characters? He is a little sensitive to loud noises so far, but seems to be ok once he has the experience. Just trying to plan the best I can. Thanks!

    Hi Amanda!
That's awesome! Our son's first visit was at 13 months and he had a wonderful time. There are a few things you can do to prepare a small child for loud noises made by fireworks and those huge characters. For the loud noises, headphones are a great way to reduce the "surprise" so he wont be scared. Let him know that the beautiful lights in the sky will "pop". You could also watch the fireworks from a distant location like the beach at Disney's Polynesian Resort.
To prepare our son for characters, I showed him many videos of children greeting the characters so he wasn't surprised to find that they are very big. Be patient if he doesn't want to get near them at first. He will probably feel more comfortable after he's seen them a few times.
Because attractions are so diverse, you should try attractions that you know he will enjoy and won't scare him with dark areas or loud noises. A great resource is the Traveling with Little Ones section of the Walt Disney World Resort website.
    Have a magical vacation!
