    We are taking our 2 1/2 year old to Disney World and I was wondering if you all have any suggestions that will keep him occupied while we wait in lines?

    Hi Jaclyn:

    If you are going to have to wait on line anywhere, at least it will be at Disney World, as many Disney queues have entertaining themeing.  To help keep an impatient toddler entertained, my first line of defense is to give them a small surprise from the dollar store at home, like a toy figure or glow stick, to help pass time pleasantly.  If your toddler is up for an old fashioned game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, or thumb wrestling, that could help distract them for a bit.  You can also help spend some time in line searching for Hidden Mickeys, which are images of Mickey Mouse concealed in a Disney ride or attraction.  Snacks, such as fruit or granola, can also help prevent toddler melt-downs in line.

    Engage your toddler in conversation.  Hand him or her a Park map (you can pick them up free at the entrance) and point to attractions and rides you will head to during the day.  If you've been on the ride before, you can tell your child what to expect.  As a last-resort, I bring out my smart-phone.  My boys enjoy when I take pictures and shoot a short video and show it to them.  We've even pretended to write Mickey e-mails on the phone.  If nothing else works, I start making silly-faces and otherwise make a fool out of myself, which always cracks my kids up and distracts them (and others in line) for a bit.
