We are taking a multi generation trip & I put all 6 of us on my account with our hotel reservations. If my mother created her own account so we can link as family and friends instead of on my account, is that possible? Will it mess up the reservation?

Welcome to planDisney Megan, and thank you for stopping by with your question! Planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation with multiple generations is such a special experience. There’s nothing quite like creating magical memories together, whether it’s a first visit or a cherished family tradition. Coordinating plans for a larger group can bring up some great questions, and I’m happy to help you navigate the best way to manage and link everyone’s My Disney Experience accounts so your trip goes smoothly from start to finish.

Your mother can absolutely create her own My Disney Experience account and link to you through the Family & Friends list without it messing up the hotel or park reservations, as long as it’s done the right way.

Right now, she’s listed on your account as a managed guest, which means you created her profile and manage her plans. When she creates her own account, you can connect her new account to the profile you’re already managing for her. This way, all her plans; hotel reservation, park tickets, dining, Lightning Lane Passes, will transfer to her account and nothing will be lost.

To do this, she’ll need to create an account using her email address. Then you’ll go into your Family & Friends list, click on her name, and choose the option to “Share Planning” with her. You’ll enter her email address and Disney will send her an invitation. Once she accepts, her account and the profile you created will merge, and she’ll be able to see and manage her plans herself.

It’s very important not to manually create a new profile for her inside her own account, because that would result in two separate profiles, one with all her reservations (the one you created) and a new empty one. That can cause issues with syncing tickets, reservations, and MagicBands.

As long as you follow the proper steps to link the existing profile with the new account, everything will remain intact and your plans will stay connected. You’ll still be able to plan together, and she’ll have the ability to manage her own reservations independently as well.

Megan, I hope this helps you get everything set up for your magical adventure at Walt Disney World Resort! Thank you for visiting planDisney, and have a pixie dusted day!
