We are taking our 20 month old to Disney World for the first time next month! We’re hoping to go to the Festival of The Lion King show, but wondering if the show is scary at all for our little one? Also looking for any other recommendations for her age.

    Hi Cassie!

Thank you for stopping by planDisney with your question. I'm excited to help you plan your magical adventure!

One of my all-time favorite memories is experiencing Disney World through my daughters’ eyes. From their giggles on the rides to wide-eyed wonder when seeing the Tree of Life, there's nothing like seeing the magic unfold for your little ones. As a mom of two princesses exploring the parks since they were just 6 months old, I’d love to share some of our park must-dos!
First, let’s talk about Animal Kingdom—this park is a favorite for my family, and it’s where The Lion King truly comes to life!

We never miss the Festival of the Lion King. The music, the energy, the tumble monkey acrobatics—it’s Hakuna Matata in its purest form! While the entire show is joyful and vibrant, my girls used to get a tiny bit scared during Scar’s song (although one of my favorite parts), but the moment passed quickly, and they were too fascinated by the colorful staging and incredible talent to dwell on it. Now at 3 and 7, they both beg to see it every visit—and we’re always singing Circle of Life on the way out!

Another can’t-miss experience is the Kilimanjaro Safaris. There is just something magical about seeing giraffes, zebras, okapis—and maybe even baby Tucker, the newest giraffe!—wandering across the savanna. My little animal lovers are mesmerized every time.

If you have a bit of time, hop aboard the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. There's an adorable petting zoo that little ones adore, and it's a fun, quieter spot to explore after the excitement of the main park. You can also meet Timon and Rafiki over here. Last, be sure to check out the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, too—it’s a peaceful way to discover animals up close and make for some beautiful memories.

Beyond Animal Kingdom, you’ll be happy to know that little ones can enjoy any attraction without a height requirement. Some of our family favorites across the parks include Dumbo in Magic Kingdom, Frozen Ever After in EPCOT, and Toy Story Mania in Hollywood Studios. For shows, we always make time for Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage in Hollywood Studios and the Encanto sing-along in EPCOT—pure joy for kids and grown-ups alike! Another show that my youngest loves is Disney Jr. Play and Dance. You can see some of the Disney Jr. characters like Vampirina and Doc McStuffins.

Cassie, I hope you and your little Mouseketeer have a magical adventure! If you have any more questions, you know where to find us—we're always happy to help.

    See you real soon!
