We’re taking our 9mo daughter on her first cruise! We want to bring an inflatable floatie to use in the ocean at the islands. Is that allowed? Also, it’s a Very Merrytime sailing! Can we bring a strand of battery operated Christmas lights?

    Ahoy there, Samantha!

Welcome back to planDisney! A first-time cruise for your daughter and a Very Merrytime sailing—now that’s what I call a magical double feature! If my Detective Mickey skills are working properly, it looks like you’ll be setting sail on the beautiful Disney Treasure for seven nights of tropical holiday fun. What an incredible way to introduce your little one to the wonder of the high seas!

Now, let’s dive right in—pun intended! Unfortunately, inflatable floats, rafts, and pool noodles must stay docked at home. They’re not permitted onboard or for use at Castaway Cay. The good news? Coast Guard personal flotation devices, swim vests, water wings, and flotation devices sewn into swimsuits are allowed. And since you’re a returning cruiser, you may already know that Castaway Cay offers complimentary life jackets for Guests of all ages. While the smallest size might still be a bit roomy for your 9-month-old, it can be helpful for a little extra buoyancy when you’re splashing near the shore. If you’re hoping for that picture-perfect float moment, you can also reserve a tube or float directly through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app before your sailing—it’s a great way to “just keep swimming” in comfort!

As for your second question—good tidings ahead! Battery-operated Christmas lights are absolutely welcome to add a little extra sparkle to your stateroom door or inside your room. Just remember that plug-in or electric strands are not permitted, and adhesive decorations are a no-go to protect those gorgeous ship surfaces. I highly recommend packing a few magnetic hooks. My daughter has claimed “Chief Door Decorator” status on our sailings, and a simple strand of twinkling lights always makes our door stand out like Cinderella’s carriage at midnight!

Since your voyage is right around the corner, here’s a quick peek at the themed evenings you might encounter aboard the Treasure (subject to change, of course—Captain Minnie loves surprises!):
    • Day 2 (At Sea): Formal Night
    • Day 3 (Cozumel): Mickey & Minnie’s Holiday Party
    • Day 4 (George Town): Pirate Night
    • Day 6 (At Sea): Semi-Formal Night

I hope this helps you deck the (shipboard) halls with confidence and set sail for a week filled with magic, memories, and maybe even a few snowflakes at sea. Before you know it, you’ll be hearing those merry bells ring and your little one will be making her first splash in true Disney style.

Sea ya real soon as the tides turn toward thankful hearts and joyful journeys,
    Dustin
