Hi! I am taking my kids down for a last minute trip for the Halloween party Thursday! I am on a super tight budget. We will arrive Wednesday morning around 10 to our resort and leave Friday afternoon. What free activities could you recommend for us?

Hello Michelle, thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel.  I know all about visiting Walt Disney World on a budget.

I'm not sure if you are visiting the parks other than during the Halloween party but if not, plan to spend time at your resort pool.  All of the resort pools are so much fun.  My daughter is always requesting an afternoon swim when we are on vacation at Walt Disney World.  The resorts will have daily pool parties and even movies under the stars during the evening.  Be sure to ask for a resort schedule when you check in.

Disney Springs (formerly known as Downtown Disney) is another fun thing to do when you are on a budget.  My whole family loves hanging out there.  There's a lot of shops to browse through so be sure to set the expectation that you are there just to look or set a spending limit so it doesn't get out of control. Sometimes there is even live entertainment and dance parties going on which are fun for the whole family.  Earl of Sandwich is a great place to eat while at Disney Springs.  It's a quick service restaurant but the prices are low and you get a lot of bang for your buck plus the drinks are refillable which is rare at a quick service restaurant (another money saver).

Another tip for saving some money is to bring your own snacks and drinks if at all possible.  The resort rooms all come with a small refrigerator.  Since a large soda will run you almost what a 12 pack can cost at your local store, we always bring our own into the parks.  The only rules here are no outside alcohol and no glass containers.  If you aren't soda drinkers, you can request a free ice water at any quick service dining location. This is great because you don't have to lug a water bottle around all day.

I hope this helps.  If you have any other questions, please come back and ask.  Have fun!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
