    Hello, We are taking our kids to Disney for the first time, arriving Nov.21 and departing Nov. 27. We have two boys, ages 6 and 4. Do you suggest character dining for every dinner? Could you give us some rest. suggestions? What rest for Thanksgivin

    Hi Kristin:

    There are few things my two young boys look forward to more on their Disney trips than character dining. Character meals are fun and interactive experiences where our boys can spend quality time with their favorite characters. That being said, because character meals are considered special experiences (and can sometimes be overwhelming and pricey), we find that enjoying between 1-3 character meals per week-long vacation works for our family. Daily character dining sounds like it would be a treat, but making it an everyday occurrence may distract from enjoying uninterrupted meals where your family can relax, regroup, recap your day, and discuss your next day at the parks. On our last Disney vacation, my family enjoyed two wonderful character meals. The first was at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort, which is open for breakfast or dinner. As the family enjoyed a huge buffet, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, and Minnie each stopped by our table to pose for pictures and sign autographs. Our next character meal was breakfast with their favorite Playhouse Disney characters at Playhouse Disney's Play 'n' Dine. Play 'n' Dine is a breakfast and lunch buffet and is located inside the Hollywood & Vine restaurant at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

    Other character dining experiences my family has enjoyed on previous trips include Donald's Safari breakfast in Tusker House at Disney's Animal Kingdom (featuring Donald Duck and friends), dinner at The Garden Grill restaurant in the Land Pavilion at Epcot (featuring Chip 'n' Dale and friends), and breakfast at Cape May Café at the Beach Club Resort (featuring Goofy, Donald, and Minnie).

    Since it's a first visit for your boys, remember to check in at City Hall at the Magic Kingdom, or at guest relations at other parks, and pick up a "1st Visit" button. Many Cast Members will go out of their way to greet your boys with a kind gesture to make their first visit more memorable.
