I am taking my honeymoon to Disney in July. I am wondering about the meal plan. First, what is the difference between counter service and sit-down service? Second, we are considering taking breakfast foods with us, so would the dining plan still benefit us

    Hello Megan!

    Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

A table service meal is one where you are seated and a server takes your order, brings your drinks and meal, etc. Table service meals include buffets, family style meals and any restaurant where you order from a menu.

Counter service is more like fast food. You order and pay at the counter, receive your food and then find a seat to enjoy your meal. There are many choices for counter service meals at Disney World including pizza, hot dogs, burgers, salads, chicken and ribs, etc.

I definitely think the dining plan would be worth it even if you plan to bring breakfast food with you. Here is how I would use the plan if I were you, (considering you plan to purchase the regular plan which includes one table service, one counter service and one snack a day). I would eat breakfast in your room, use the counter service credit for lunch and use your table service credit for dinner. You can use your snack credit on a wide variety of things ranging from a bottle of water to ice cream, popcorn or one of my personal favorites - a DoleWhip.

Since the regular meal plan only includes two meals a day, most times people pay out of pocket for a meal or do just as you plan and bring things from home to have breakfast in the room. Eating a quick breakfast at your resort before hitting the parks will not only save you money, but precious time as well.

I hope this helps! Enjoy your honeymoon at the most magical place on Earth!
