we are taking our 3 1/2 yo grandson and 2 1/2 yo granddaughter to WDW in a couple of weeks. We are planning on going to Downtown Disney our first day down. Is there anything to interest these two besides the gif shop?

    Julie:

For our family, a trip to Disney isn't the same without some time at Downtown Disney!  Keep in mind that Downtown Disney is more than just one gift shop.  It is an entire complex of restaurants, specialty shops, and outdoor vendors.

I am amazed at how captivating the Lego store is to my youngsters!  There are Lego "statues" all over the Downtown Disney campus from a dinosaur to a man walking his dog!  You may want to check out the World of Disney store with its Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique--although your granddaughter will need to be three to get her hair done.  Once Upon a Toy offers more Disney toys than you can shake a stick at!  And I heard the t-shirt machine at the new Design-a-Tee is a lot of fun to watch as it spits out one-of-a-kind designs!

Beyond the shops, stroll along the "riverfront" and enjoy a sundae at the Ghirardelli Shop or make reservations at the Rainforest Cafe, where jungle animals come to life.  There's a new T-Rex restaurant with animated dinosaurs, but beware: I heard it's REALLY loud. With young ones, I'd probably go to Rainforest.  You can make reservations at Rainforest at: 407-827-8500.

To top off the evening, take a roundtrip ride on one of the boats that go to either Saratoga Springs Resort or Port Orleans!

Wishing you a magical vacation with your grandchildren!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
