Hello! I am taking my grandma to Disney in November (two half days at MNSSHP and AK) she has some health conditions ie. may need more time to load in ride vehicles, and Type 1 diabetes. How can we navigate these issues at Disney?

Hi, Amber! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

How magical that you’re taking your grandmother to Walt Disney World Resort! My grandparents were the first to take me to Walt Disney World Resort, and even though that was more than 35 years ago, the memories we made together on that trip still hold a special place in my heart.

You’ll find that the Cast Members at each of the Walt Disney World Resort attractions do a great job making sure all Guests are secure and ready before any ride vehicles depart. Even the attractions that are in perpetual motion (such as Haunted Mansion or Peter Pan’s Flight at Magic Kingdom Park) will stop to allow Guests with mobility issues the time they need to board and exit. I would just recommend letting the attraction attendant know that you’ll need a little extra time when you get into the line.

Before you go, check out the information about Walt Disney World Resort’s Disability Access Service to see if that might be something your grandmother could benefit from. Once you’re in the Parks, you can also pick up a Theme Park map which outlines services for Guests with disabilities or you can download an electronic version from the Walt Disney World Resort website

If your grandmother feels unwell during your visit, there are First Aid centers available at each of the Theme Parks and Water Parks. In-room medical services are also available at Walt Disney World Resort hotels.

Hopefully taking advantage of these available services will help you and your grandmother have a magical vacation, Amber. Please let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with as you plan.
