Hello, Margaret! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. My daughter is just a little older than your granddaughter so I have lots of suggestions of what kids that age will love at the Disneyland Resort!
First, you will want to measure your granddaughter before your visit. This way you will know whether to stick to attractions without any height restrictions or if she will be able to go on attractions with 32", 35", etc. height requirements. You can filter the
attractions page by height so you can see a complete list of attractions available to your granddaughter. Some of my daughter's favorites include Mad Tea Party, Peter Pan's Flight, "it's a small world," Jungle Cruise, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel's Undersea Adventure, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree (32" height requirement), Monster's, Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue!, and Pirates of the Caribbean. I would also suggest spending some time in Mickey's Toontown. With so much to explore and do, it's a perfect area for 3-year-olds.
A character meal sounds like the perfect birthday treat! My top pick would be lunch at
Ariel's Grotto in Disney California Adventure Park. Here, you will meet Ariel upon entering and then a few of her princess friends will visit while you dine. My daughter was tickled pink every time a princess visited our table. Make sure to bring your autograph book! I suggest making reservations (online or by calling [714] 781-3463) for character meals as soon as you are able which is up to 60 days in advance.
Don't forget to pick up a complimentary birthday button for your granddaughter at City Hall in Disneyland Park! She will receive all sorts of birthday wishes from Cast Members and maybe other Guests as well. I hope your visit is full of magic and memories!
