Hello, we are taking our first trip to WDW in Jan. We will arrive at around 2:00 in the afternoon and are staying at POFQ. We have reservations for 6:30 at Chef Mickey. Can someone give us great tips for our first half day at the park?

    Hi Heather,

You must be so excited about your upcoming trip to Walt Disney World!  There are a number of ways you could spend that delightful first day of vacation:

    1.  After checking in to Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter, head over to Downtown Disney to do some shopping.  My family loves to check out the amazing variety of souvenirs at this mecca of Disney shopping.

    2.  Arrive a few hours early at Disney's Contemporary Resort.  Do a full monorail loop around the Magic Kingdom area resorts, stopping at each one to see the decor, have a snack, or do a little shopping.

    3.  Take a bus over to Disney's Wilderness Lodge to see the gorgeous lobby, search for hidden Mickeys, and watch Fire Rock Geyser erupt.  Then take a delightful boat ride from the back of the Lodge to Disney's Contemporary Resort for dinner.

I could go on for pages and pages, Heather.  If you need additional suggestions for that first day, just let us know by posting another question.

Wishing you the most magical first trip to Walt Disney World ever!

    Jill

PS.  If you are planning to visit one of the Disney theme parks on your first day (as opposed to simply visiting the Walt Disney World resort in general), the Magic Kingdom would be the best choice since it is so close to Chef Mickey's.  I suggest you head to your most-anticipated rides first.  You will only have time for a few attractions between 2 and 6 pm so you may as well pick ones that you can't wait to try.  Have fun.
