We're taking our first trip to DW with our 7 yo son, 5 yo daughter, and 3 yo niece. We have shows/meals planned for the girls, but I'm looking for ideas for my son. Any ride, show, or free activity recommendations? He's not a thrill-seeker. Thanks!

    Hi Rebecca,

You must be so excited for your first trip to Walt Disney World!! As a mom with two older boys, I can tell you that there will be plenty of attractions, shows, and meals that your son will enjoy.  In fact there are so many things, it's difficult for me to pick only a few.

    • Meals - Character meals are always fun! It gives guests an opportunity to meet their favorite characters without having to stand in long lines in the park.  Some of our favorites that appeal to both boys and girls are Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary and Tusker House in Animal Kingdom.  There are also a few restaurants that don't feature characters but offer fun, unique theming - 50's Prime Time Cafe in Hollywood Studios, Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge, and T-Rex in Downtown Disney are all fun choices.
    • Shows - Lights, Motors, Action! at Hollywood Studios is a fun stunt show that my boys love.  If you're heading to Animal Kingdom, make sure you catch Legend of the Lion King.  Any of the firework shows or parades are fantastic too!
    • Attractions - I can't possibly list all of my boys favorites, but there are several non-thrill rides that your son will probably really like.  At Animal Kingdom be sure to ride Kilimanjaro Safari.  It's almost impossible to choose just one at Magic Kingdom, but your son will probably enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and Monster's Inc. Laugh Factory.  Epcot is home to Test Track, and be sure to try your hand at Toy Story Midway Mania in Hollywood Studios.

Hope this helps get you started.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
