We are taking our first trip to Disneyworld this August 13-21. We have decided to take advantage of the dining plan. Do I need to make advance reservations for table service for every day or just the most popular dining attractions that we want to visit?

Since you are visiting during the summer which can be more busy, I would definitely recommend making any reservations in advance.   You can schedule your reservations up to 180 days before your trip.   As you note, at a minimum schedule those that are popular (Cinderella Castle, Chef Mickey or Princess breakfasts) or those you really want to experience.   Its likely your top preferences will mirror that of other visitors.    Since one of the benefits of the dining plan is to experience these type restaurants, may as well assure you are all set before arriving.
