Hi! We are taking our first trip to Disney with a 7,5,and 3 yr old. We'll have 5 days at the parks with no park hopper option. Will we be disappointed if we skip AK? Suggestions for how to most enjoy the 5 days would be helpful. Thanks!

    Hi Katie,

This is a tricky question to answer.  For some people, Animal Kingdom is a MUST SEE park, a place where their family could spend days exploring.  As a Disney Mom, I have a hard time leaving out any park - like kids, I love them all.  Kilimanjaro Safari is amazing, you can spend as much time as you want walking through the exploration trails, Finding Nemo and Lion King shows are stunning, and the Boneyard is a great playground area where your kids can run off steam.

    HOWEVER...

Animal Kingdom is my least favorite of the four parks, and if I had to miss one during my vacation, that would be the park I'd choose to skip.  I would plan on spending one day at Hollywood Studios and 2 days each at Magic Kingdom and Epcot.  I always like to begin and end my vacations with Magic Kingdom.  There's just something magical about walking down Main Street.  With that in mind, I suggest the following itinerary.

    Day1 - Magic Kingdom
    Day2 - Epcot
    Day3 - Hollywood Studios
Day4 - Epcot (or Animal Kingdom if you find Epcot is not the park for you)
    Day5 - Magic Kingdom

Of course, you'll want to look at the park calendars and avoid going to parks on days that have extra magic hours on specific days.  These parks can get quite crowded, and without a park hopper pass, there is no way to escape the crowds.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
