We will be taking our first trip to Disney in Oct. We have 3 kids, all 7 and under. Need help deciding to stay at Poly or Budget. Baby will be 2 and napping daily. Regarding transportation, is monorail (Poly) that much better than bus (budget)?

    HI Amy!

The Polynesian is a Disney Deluxe Resort.  There is a huge difference between a Disney Deluxe Resort and a Disney Value Resort; however, if you view your hotel as simply as a place to sleep and shower then it might be best to save the money.

A Disney Deluxe Resort generally speaking has multiple on site restaurants, a better pool complex (including a water slide), better theming, and more services and amenities in general.  It also has a better location with regards to at least one theme park.  The rooms are also significantly larger.

With young children, you will probably be spending a lot of time in the Magic Kingdom.  If you stay in a monorail resort, such as the Polynesian, you will have easy access to your hotel room for a nap, etc.  You can easily get back to your hotel room in about 15 to 20 minutes from the Magic Kingdom.  If you have to take a Disney bus, however, it could easily be 45 minutes or more.  Buses run about every twenty minutes; the 45 minutes includes waiting for a bus, the bus trip, and then the time for an average walk at a Value Resort.

If your budget can swing it, definitely stay at the Polynesian.  If you want something in between a Disney Deluxe and Value Resort then I recommend Port Orleans Riverside.  It's a beautiful resort with more services and amenities than a Value Resort.  Good luck with your decision, and write back if you have any more questions!
