Hello we will be taking our first disney vacay in May 2016 and I want it to be the best for our children (boy 7 yrs, girl 4 yrs , boy 1 year) . What are the must try five dining experiences considering we are on a budgetÉ thank you

    Aparna:

I want to be totally honest with you. The words "must-try" and "budget" do not necessarily match up at Disney... However, there are good value dining experiences for every pocketbook.

    • Best "must-try" counter service for kids: Columbia Harbour House at Magic Kingdom with its well-themed dining rooms, tables overlooking the walkway below and pleasing kids menu. Cosmic Rays' Sonny Eclipse makes it my second choice for MK but the noise level can be deafening. Grab a table under the tree canopy next to the water's edge at Animal Kingdom's Flame Tree Barbecue to enjoy its mouth-watering ribs. Katsura Grill in the Japanese Pavilion at Epcot includes outdoor seating near its koi ponds. My youngster loves their teriyaki chicken.
    • Best "must-try" table service on a budget for kids: Both Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex will appeal to your older son. Their menus are varied for picky eaters--even adults. At Hollywood Studios, Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater offers a menu that's one of the most affordable for the entire family. The dimness of the restaurant keeps children remarkably quiet. Your daughter may not remember eating in a car but your son will.
    • Best "must-try" character meals on a budget: If you're counting pennies, one character meal is all you need for a first trip. Book a breakfast instead of a dinner. With the age of your son, I'd choose a meal with Mickey over a meal with the princesses, so Garden Grill or Tusker House would be my choice. If you want to pay a little more, Chef Mickey's is iconic. For some, booking a later breakfast is as good as a lunch.

Look at the menus of each of these locations either at www.disneyworld.com or at allears.net (which can be navigated a little quicker) to determine which restaurants will fit your taste and budget best.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
