    We are taking our first cruise in February with our 6 year old. We currently have dining at 6:00 and shows at 9:00, but are concerned about the late show times. Any suggestions as to what works well with younger children?

    We've always found that consistency works best for our child. If we were going to have late nights on board the ship, then we made sure to have nap time in our quiet stateroom.

    I would consider the time that you dine at home. We eat earlier meals most nights at home and have found that dining at the Main seating on the ship works better for us.

    We have dined several times on Disney Cruises at the later seating and our child was often too tired to enjoy the meal. Personally, I'd rather have a sleepy child in a theatre seat than at a nice dining table.

    With a six-year old, I would stay with the 6:00 p.m. seating. Some quiet time in your cabin after a mid-day swim should help your child feel awake enough for the shows. The Broadway-quality shows are very entertaining and likely will capture your child's attention.

    If you are sailing on the Disney Dream and continue to have concerns, you may want to contact Disney Cruise Line and inquire about the 5:00 show. If there is no availability, there is likely to be a waiting list.

    Assigned show times is a new procedure being unveiled on the Disney Dream and it'll take a few weeks of sailing before I can research guest feedback.
