    We are taking our family of 6 (2 adults, 8yo, 6yo, 3yo, and newborn) to DL. I am having a hard time understanding how rider swap will work for our family. Can 3 people be the second riding party if 4 people were in the first riding party?

    Hello there, Breanne, and welcome to planDisney!

    How thrilling that you and your family are about to visit the Happiest Place on Earth! I hope your kids are super excited to meet Mickey and Minnie! Do you have a countdown calendar for them since your trip is just around the corner?

    It sounds like the Rider Switch service will be extremely useful to you with your newborn. Let's break down how this service works:

    • Your entire family approaches the greeting Cast Member at an attraction and you state that you are interested in the Rider Switch option.
    • You will be split into two different parties.  The first party will wait through the standby queue and experience the attraction. The second party (maximum of three people including the non-riding family member) is free to either wait at a designated area or go experience other attractions around the Park.
    • Once the first party has exited the attraction, the second party can return to the attraction entrance to have their tickets scanned for the Rider Switch entitlement and can then board the attraction without waiting in the regular queue while the first party waits with the non-riding family member. 

    In the past, Disney has allowed one child to experience the attraction again with an adult in the second party. However, Disney's policies are constantly changing and I do not see this language in the Rider Switch description, so I would recommend speaking with the Cast Member to assess your options. Also, please note that all riding members would need a Lightning Lane reservation if you wish to utilize the Lightning Lane entrance for the first party. 

    Did you know that you will be visiting at the tail end of the Lunar New Year Festival at Disney California Adventure? There are sure to be some delicious treats available for you and your family. I would also highly recommend that you experience Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. I know that your kids will love it! For your newborn, make good use of the Baby Care Centers if you need a location for diaper changing, feeding, or nursing.
