Hi. I am taking the cruise on 6/20 from Italy to Greece. We were unable to book any excursions for Chania as everything was sold out through Disney. Can you tell me which port we will be docking at? Is it Souda? Thank you!

Well ahoy there Kim, and welcome aboard planDisney!

Let me just begin by saying as a longtime sailor on the Mediterranean Sea, that I am so excited for your upcoming cruise itinerary this summer! While some folks are just wetting their feet and earning their sea legs on short sails in the Caribbean, it looks like you've got a 7-Night Mediterranean with Greek Isles Cruise from Civitavecchia on the horizon.

If there's anything I appreciate more than world travel, it's someone who's definitely done their homework! The Port of Souda is indeed where cruise ships dock, which is an important seaside shipping town that is about a 15 - 20 minute ride away from Chania whether by taxi or by the surprisingly very modern and reliable inexpensive bus system. One of the greatest things about visiting Crete is that I've never needed to take a tender from a cruise ship, and hopefully this will continue to be the case on your voyage on board the Disney Dream!

From my personal experience, Chania (don't pronounce the 'C') is one of those charming ports that are relatively easier to explore on your own in the event that you're unable to snag one of the popular Port Adventures that feature the culture and history of Crete. You might find it fairly easy to find signage directing you to the Old Venetian Harbor, and if you can make it past all of the tantalizing scents of grilled seafood you may be able to go the distance and trek out to the ancient lighthouse to be rewarded with what I think is the best view in the city to take a photo from!

After voyaging back and forth from Italy to Greece I can absolutely tell you that the two very key things you'll want to have with you is some good sun protection and comfortable footwear. There's something about the Mediterranean sun reflecting off of the bright white Grecian architecture in Mykonos and Santorini, along with the winding alleyways to explore with uneven cobblestones underfoot that may make you remember these little bits of advice!

Please come back to planDisney for any more of our advice, tips and tricks ahead of your next adventure and be sure to reach out to our Disney Cruise Line specialists Tracie and Adrianna for the waves of knowledge that they're always happy to bestow upon fellow seafarers!

Wishing you all the best on your Mediterranean quest!
