We are taking a cruise in Feb 2012 we will be traveling with my daughter is going to be 10. With the decription of the Oceaneer's club I am worried that it will be a bit to young fro her. Is it an option to move her up to the Edge club for the 11-13yr olds

    Hi, Tracy!

Congratulations on your Disney Cruise Line vacation next year! My 10-year-old son was within a few weeks of turning 11 when we sailed aboard the Disney Dream last month and teetered between wanting to stay in the Oceaneer's Club and Oceaneer's Lab and feeling more comfortable in Edge -- the tween hang out.

On Embarkation Day, my son and husband visited both areas while I talked to the Director of Youth Clubs and Activities, Carole. She said that if a child is within a couple of months of his/her birthday, they are welcome to try the older youth club. My little guy started out in the Oceaneer's Club and Oceaneer's Lab at the beginning of the cruise and enjoyed his time with his little brother and other "older" kids in those areas.  Yet, he ended up in Edge because of the draw of its activities and amenities -- plus, Edge seemed to populated with tween boys in particular on our cruise. (It sort of made this mom sad realizing he was growing up!)

Therefore, register your daughter for where she belongs age-wise. Yet, know that if she is on the cusp of turning 11, she is welcome to try out Edge while you sail. You'll just need to visit both spaces during the Open House on Embarkation Day to talk to the counselors. My son advised me that even if she's the oldest at the Oceaneer's Club or Oceaneer's Lab, the counselors will give the big kids extra special activities and opportunities not offered to the others. It's a win-win situation!

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
