We are taking our 1st cruise for my daughters grad gift less than 90d. Looking at the stingray adventure in Grand Caymen. I can not swim the info says 4-6ft. Is the 6ft an option or a req to participate ? We are also doing the pirate ship have u done this?

    Hi Tracy!

At Grand Cayman, most of the stingray encounters take place at a point called Stingray City.  It's basically a sandbar (or series of sandbars) out in the ocean. I've been out there and I think the description of between 4 and 6 feet is about right, though I remember most of it being in about 4 to 5 feet of water as I had no problems standing up. However, that said, I would recommend doing the Stingray Adventure on Castaway Cay instead.  I think it's a much better experience at Castaway Cay and it's a beach entry down to the stingrays; you don't have to go in deeper than you feel comfortable.  Also, I think the Cast Members do a better job educating you about stingrays in general.  My family and I are headed to Castaway Cay again soon and this is the only excursion we signed up for on the island because we love it!

My dad, my oldest son, and I did the pirate ship excursion on Grand Cayman as well. My son, who was 10 at the time, absolutely loved it. Basically, you cruise around on a small boat and there's some interaction between the younger guests and the crew -- on our trip, an adult was "tied up" (for about 5 minutes) and the children had to "scrub the deck" with sponges for about 10 minutes.  After that we pretended we were attacking the Magic before pulling up to a spot off shore where everybody could jump in and swim. Guests could not climb down a ladder to the water; basically you had to "walk the plank" and jump. The highlight for most children was jumping from a very high point on the boat, so if you don't like heights, you probably wouldn't enjoy that aspect.  My recommendation would be not do this since you don't swim.

Instead, I recommend visiting Seven Mile Beach which is a short taxi ride (and there are plenty of them) from where you come ashore at the island.  It's a beautiful beach and there are places to get food, drinks, and snacks.  I hope this helps!  Write back with more questions!
