Moms who have taken kids under 2 on planes....did you get a ticket for you child or hold him/her on your lap? My daughter will be 1 month away from 2 years old on our trip and we can't decide what to do.

    Hi Erika,

After taking one trip with a child on our lap, we never did that again.  With the cramped seating that many planes have, we found the experience to be just a bit too much with a toddler.  While our son was well-behaved, he still needed his own space that we couldn't accommodate very well with his sitting on our laps.  Also, it was challenging to even bring the tray table down for him to use for coloring, playing with toys, and watching movies on our portable dvd player.

By purchasing his own seat, he had a place where we felt better about his having his own seat belt and his own play area.  It was a much better experience the second time around with more space. I know for us, we didn't regret having spent the extra money on the ticket.

    Thank you for the question.
