Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Robert!
October is one of my favorite times of year to vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort. The nights start to get a little cooler while the days are still perfect for a quick dip in the pool and of course... those fall decorations on Main Street, U.S.A. are the best!
Robert, I love that while you're staying at
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa you're hoping to spring a little surprise! Since you specifically asked about tea service at your resort, it might be helpful to know there are two options. In the mornings, the Garden View Tea Room hosts
Disney's Perfectly Princess Tea. This experience is mostly designed for kids, complete with gifts and a special appearance by a Princess. If your son loves Sleeping Beauty and channeling his inner Royal, I would check this out.
The other is the regular
Afternoon Tea at Garden View Tea Room. This would be my first choice as it is more self-paced and you can select a reservation time that works for your schedule (I recommend after 3:00 pm so you can enjoy the live music in the lobby). In terms of food, when you are seated, you will be given a menu with different tea services and you can select that which looks most appealing to you. There is a basic option with tea, finger sandwiches (like chicken salad or cucumber) traditional scones and dessert. There is an option with those mentioned above plus a cheese plate and then there is an option with everything plus cavier! You can even add on a glass of champagne if you'd like! There is also a "Mrs. Potts tea" option for ages 3-9. You do not need to decide in advance, but I do recommend reservations close to 180 days prior to your stay, if you are able. This can easily be done online.
Personally, I absolutely adore afternoon tea, but I know it's not for everyone. I have two elementary-school-aged boys and one would love it, while the other would not. After you read a bit more, if you decide it might
not be right for your son, I'll toss out some other ideas just in case.
If your family would enjoy a private viewing of Happily Ever After, consider
chartering a boat from the Grand Floridian Marina where you can pre-order snacks to enjoy while you're watching the fireworks. To do this, you would just call (407)WDW-PLAY.
Another idea would be to enjoy a dessert party at any of the parks like the
Frozen Ever After Dessert Party at EPCOT World Showcase. My family and I love the nighttime shows and the dessert parties are a great way to elevate that experience AND have reserved seating! These can be booked online, but will often not show as available until closer to your travel dates.
Robert, whatever you decide, I'm sure your wife and son will feel like they've stepped into their own Fairy tale with your thoughtfulness. Best wishes for a trip that is unforgettable. Please stop back and see us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with any other questions you might have!
