Aloha, Deborah!
Welcome to planDisney and thank you so much for stopping by with your question. I am sorry to hear that your dream vacation may need to be postponed, and I hope the member of your party who is ill recovers quickly. As a mom of three kids, we have had scenarios where we have had to cancel or postpone vacations a few times when one of our 'ohana was unable to travel. I know it can be hard to reschedule the trip, so let me share with you what happens when you need to cancel or modify a vacation you booked using your Disney Vacation Club Membership.
Deborah, if the
cancellation is between 1 and 30 days of your check-in date, your Vacation Club Points will go into a Holding Account, and they will have some restrictions for using them to rebook. Vacation Points in your Holding Account will be good until the end of your Use Year when they will expire. You can use them like you would your regular Vacation Points, except that reservations must be made within 60 days of your Check-In date. Vacation Points in a Holding Account also cannot be banked or borrowed.
The guidelines regarding usage of your
Holding Account Vacation Points are as follows:
- These Vacation Points can be used for a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation during your current Use Year as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new Check-In date.
These Vacation Points can also be used for a new reservation during your current Use Year in 2 ways:
- For the Disney Collection* (except Tokyo Disney Resort hotels), or Hotel Exchange*, you can make the reservation more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year for a Check-In date that is 60 or less days before the new Check-In date.
- For Disney Collection reservations at Disneyland Resort in California and Tokyo Disney Resort hotels, or the World Collection, as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new Check-In date.
- These Vacation Points cannot be banked or borrowed.
- These Vacation Points must be used by the end of the Use Year or they expire.
So, potentially, depending on your travel flexibility and your Use Year, you may be able to use the Vacation Points from this vacation that you have to cancel. But you have to book the vacation within 60 days of your check-in date (with the exception of reservations in the Disney Collection and Hotel Exchange as noted above), and travel has to be completed by the end of your Use Year. If that isn't possible, then unfortunately, you will forfeit these Vacation Points.
If you are cancelling or modifying the vacation 31 or more days from your check-in date, you won't incur any penalties. The Vacation Points will return to your account; however, any borrowed or banked Vacation Points will not return to their original Use Year. They will remain in the current Use Year for which you banked/borrowed them for the vacation, and they will have to be used by the end of the current Use Year.
I would recommend calling
Member Services to assist you. They can look at your plans, your account, and help you with the best way to utilize your Vacation Points from this trip, so that you can hopefully still enjoy the vacation of your dreams.
If you have any further questions, Deborah, soar back here to see me, and I'll be so happy to help you.
A Hui Hou,
Keri
