Hey there, Challon! Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney. It is super exciting to hear that you'll be headed to
Walt Disney World Resort next week to cheer on your favorite team, and as a veteran of many dance competitions at The Most Magical Place on Earth, I'm happy to help assist with some magical details about your trip.
The Summit Championship is, of course, the highlight of the All-Star cheer season, featuring top teams from around the world leaving their hearts on the mat at the
ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
One of the highlights of Summit is the final night Celebration Party, which kicks off at
EPCOT at 9:00 PM on Sunday, May 3. This is a really fun event for athletes, coaches, and spectators to have the park to themselves and have fun after an intense competition. Challon, if you are traveling on a Varsity spectator travel package, transportation to the party is included from your Disney
Resort Hotel.
Currently, there isn't a confirmed list of what attractions will be open, but based on past Varsity events, you can likely expect to enjoy the following:
- Frozen Ever After
- Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana
- Mission: SPACE
- Remy's Ratatouille Adventure
- Soarin' Around the World
- Spaceship Earth
- The Seas with Nemo and Friends
- Test Track
While this list is subject to change, rest assured that you will find plenty to do during your after-hours event!
Let me leave you with some tips for the actual competition that I wish I had known before our first visit to ESPN. For starters, add your event tickets to your My Disney Experience account so they're handy when you need to scan in at the entrance - if you have tickets for multiple days, it's much easier to navigate them in the app.
ESPN has several venues that will be in use during the competition - check the schedule so you don't miss your squad, and also take note of any other routines that you want to catch! The talent is incredible at Summit, and it's really fun to see lots of different squads.
There are lots of great dining options at ESPN, but I am a big fan of the food trucks that are usually onsite for competitions. Be sure to take a lap and see what's available during Summit. There's also some Joffrey's Coffee locations at the complex, which is always great if your team is competing early in the morning!
The spectator travel package that I mentioned earlier includes transportation to and from ESPN. However, if you're driving to the competition, there is plenty of free parking and it's really easy to navigate. We often do rideshare during competitions if we want to go to one of the theme parks or Disney Springs during our downtime. The drop-off and pick-up locations are clearly marked, and there are usually lots of drivers in the area so you won't have to wait long.
I hope this information is helpful, Challon! Wishing your group a fantastic experience at Summit, and hopefully a big trophy to bring home. Please come see us again at planDisney if we can help with any other questions.
Go Team!
Susan
