What are your suggestions and tips on how to deal with the rain/thunderstorms while in the parks? Do all outdoor rides close down? What is the worst park to be at during this weather? It is suppose to be thunderstorms the entire time we are there:( Thanks!

Hi there, Mia! Welcome back to planDisney! We always love to see our old friends come back for a visit. It looks like your Walt Disney World Resort vacation is just about to get started! So, let's chat about the weather, shall we?

Mia, as a Floridian, I can wax on and on about weather here in the Sunshine State. As I write to you, it's warm and sunny outside my window, but a look at the forecast tells me that rain is definitely on the way. As our friends Timon and Pumbaa would say, "Hakuna Matata!" No worries! With a little preparation, you can weather the storm and have a magical vacation even in the rain.

First, I highly recommend a water resistant bag or backpack. I've had to wrestle with a wet bag that gets everything in it wet, too, and it's not pretty. You'll also want a bag that's big enough to carry rain gear like ponchos, rain jackets, or umbrellas. A couple of small towels are also nice to have in your bag so you can dry off a little when you get to shelter. I know lots of people prefer to wear hiking or sports sandals rather than soggy sneakers when it rains, so you might want to give some thought to that.

Typically, attractions like Test Track at EPCOT, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom, and Slinky Dog Dash at Disney's Hollywood Studios will close in severe weather. You can check your My Disney Experience app for updates on which attractions may be closed at any given time. It also helps to keep an eye on the radar throughout the day and look for breaks in the rain where you can move around more easily or get some attractions in.

All of the parks do have indoor restaurants and attractions that you can take advantage of in the rain, but honestly, I think Disney's Animal Kingdom Park is the one that is toughest to navigate on a really rainy day. I'd try to arrange your schedule so that you're visiting there on the day with the least chance of rain. But don't worry if you can't! I promise you'll still have an amazing time. You're at Walt Disney World, after all!

Mia, I hope this helps you make the most of those rainy Disney days. I have a feeling a little rain won't slow you down, though! Have fun, and please come see us again if you have any more questions!

    Keep Disney Dreaming,

    Kathy K.

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
