Any suggestions for RV trip to WDW from NY? Renting an RV for one week, staying at fort wilderness campgrounds (4 days?). First time rv, trip to wdw and camping experience. Two birthdays duirng our trip (husband and daughter-12). Please help, excited!!

I love answering questions about Fort Wilderness as it is my preferred place to stay now that we have our own motor coach!

First of all make sure if you are renting an RV and traveling the distance from New York that you have it checked over carefully as you don't want any time wasted for maintenance on the way. Once you are in the campgrounds if something should go wrong the cast members will be glad to share local services that are allowed in to help the guests.

It is nice to "camp" as you can bring food with you. If you are trailering a car you can finish the shopping once you arrive. If you will not have a car you can use a grocery service to fill in your needs and I suggest gardengrocer.com.  The Fort has two trading posts where you can also purchase basic food staples and supplies.  Of course you can find great Fort Wilderness only souvenirs as well.

There are two pools here with the largest one being a short walk to all loops for the campground.  The Bike Barn is near the pool and where you can rent canoes, kayaks, fishing poles and sign up for archery lessons and other games and activities.

There is one restaurant at this resort area called Trails End and it is open for buffet breakfast and dinner and table service lunch.  Crockett's bar is attached and close to this building is where you will find the must do Hoop Dee Doo Revue dinner show. Book early as it is popular.  Mickey's Backyard BarBQ is also at this location.  The marina offers boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom and Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary Resorts.  For a birthday you might consider reserving a pontoon boat for a Fireworks Cruise or signing your husband up for a fishing guide one morning.

You can enjoy pony rides, visits to the Walt Disney World stables, hay rides, carraige rides, and horseback riding. Most of these will be additional charge and some will need reservations so just check out the Disney website.
