Hi Dawn! I love that you are planning to visit Walt Disney World Resort with your 6-year old granddaughter! Rain or shine, I know she will love spending time with you and it will be so magical for you to see Walt Disney World Resort through her 6-year old eyes!
Some of our most favorite days at Walt Disney World Resort have been on wet rainy days. Several Guests may head back to their Resort hotels so you may feel like you have the theme parks to yourselves. Just plan accordingly and make the best of every magical moment. I would definitely recommend you pack multiple pairs of shoes to help avoid blisters from wet shoes. Take good rain gear with you as well. The rain gear will double as a coat inside attractions if the air conditioning first feels cold after being out in the warm Florida weather.
When you are mapping out your itinerary for the day, I would encourage you to select attractions or entertainment with indoor venues. We have spent hours inside
The Seas with Nemo & Friends and loved every minute.
While some attractions may shut down if safety is a concern, they will open again when the weather clears. Regardless, planning indoor activities is still a great option. Yes, you will get wet walking from one attraction to the next but with the right rain gear, you will be fine. One year when my kiddos were younger, we bought a Disney Parks rain poncho for our backpack. We put the backpack on our stroller, covered it with our poncho and everything stayed dry. We also packed an extra outfit for each of our kiddos in plastic storage bags and carried them with us in our backpack. It came in handy as both needed dry clothes.
I hope this helps you with your planning. I'm so excited knowing you will be at Walt Disney World Resort in a few short days!! Enjoy every magical moment!
