You suggested the Port Orleans French Quarter to a question. I have 10 and 6 year old boys, and trying to decide which Disney hotel to stay in. Can you tell me why you recommend PO French Quarter?

    Rhonda,

When looking at moderate Walt Disney World hotels, I often recommend Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ) for families with young children (still in strollers), elderly family members or those guests with mobility issues.

Port Orleans French Quarter is small and quaint. After a long day at the parks, it’s nice to have such a compact resort for easy access to the pool, laundry room, food court, store and Guest Services. The single bus stop makes transportation more convenient than the larger moderates. The boat transportation to Downtown Disney is wonderful. Beyond that, I like the theming and find the walkways, gardens and fountains absolutely charming. Also POFQ’s pool slide is geared towards younger kids. It’s a gentle slope down a serpent’s pink tongue.

For your family with school-age boys, out of the 2 Port Orleans resorts, I would suggest Port Orleans Riverside. There are more recreational opportunities such as boat rentals, a pirate cruise and fishing. The rustic theme of the ‘Ol Man Island pool and playground is great for boys. The pool slide is short, but fun.

Coronado Springs resort has the best pool slide out of the moderates. Although once the new pool slide opens at the Caribbean Beach it may be difficult to choose between them.

When deciding on which resort to recommend, I take in to account the ages of the children, the family's budget and what amenities the family desires (beach, pool time, restaurants, proximity to parks, etc).

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to let us know if we can help narrow down your resort choices even further.
