Are students attending Grad Nite allowed to wear costumes, or partial costumes such as Anakin Skywalker Jedi Robes? One of our students wants to go in costume, but costumes are only for special events. Does Grad Nite count as a special event to wear that?

    Hi Liam,

Welcome to planDisney. Grad Nite—what an exciting time! As a high school teacher, I love hyping my students up for this event. It’s such a fun way to conclude four years of hard work. I recently attended Grad Nite as a chaperone for my school, and it was definitely a great experience!

Thank you for reaching out on behalf of your padawan. As Jedi, it is our responsibility to teach our young apprentices the ways of the Force. To help with your question, I looked into the park guidelines regarding attire. It states that costumes may not be worn by guests 14 years of age or older. Grad Nite does not qualify as a special event where full costumes are acceptable.

If your student wants to get into the Star Wars spirit, I recommend they try a bit of "DisneyBounding"—a fun way to style everyday clothes inspired by Disney characters, without wearing a full costume. The Disney Parks Blog has some great examples, especially for Star Wars Bounding, that you may find helpful. When bounding, it's important to stick with regular clothing and avoid masks or long, dragging capes.

In your student’s case, they might consider wearing an outfit inspired by Anakin’s classic Jedi tunic paired with casual pants—just enough to channel the look without going full cosplay.

If your school is opting for the daytime Park Hopper option for Grad Nite, be sure to remind your padawan that Star Tours will feature new scenes from Disney+ shows like Ahsoka, Andor, and The Mandalorian. I wonder who will be recruiting visitors to the cause!

Liam, I hope these were the droids... oops! I mean, I hope this was the information you were looking for. If you have any other questions or need help with future planning, feel free to write back to me or one of my fellow panelists. We’re always here to guide you in the ways of the Force for your next Disney adventure.

May the Force be with you, always!
