How strictly enforced are the height restrictions on the pool play areas? I have very tall kids who will want to use these play areas. 1 kid is taller than 48”.These play areas were a main reason we chose the resort & my kid will be sad.

    Welcome to planDisney, Meghan!

Thank you for bringing your concern to us and trusting our advice for your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort vacation! I adore the themed splash areas at several Disney Resort Collection Hotels and am happy to give you my perspective and some guidance for your family to have a magical experience.

The policies for height restrictions on pool splash play areas are in place much like other attractions around the theme parks – for everyone’s safety. There may be areas to climb through or go under and the height limit keeps children within a safe zone for that specific play. Restricting the height for participants is another way to ensure that older children (who aren’t appropriate to play at the same pace and style as the children the space was designed for) do not risk the safety of our little ones by being in the space with them and acting too rough.

I cannot speak to how closely the exact height is enforced but encourage you to kindly speak with the lifeguard on duty each day you are at the pool. The play areas for little ones have a specific Cast Member on guard and you can explain that while your children may be tall, this is the most appropriate play area for them, development-wise. If the lifeguard allows them to enjoy the play area, please be sure that your children know to be cautious around the varied heights and ceilings of different play structures. Kindly encourage them to be mindful of their size compared to other little ones so that all families continue to feel safe and enjoy this fun splash space. I would also encourage you to stand by on watch as their parent to be sure everyone plays in harmony, and to model the Guest Courtesy Guidelines to support other Guests in having a magical day.

If the height requirement is firmly enforced and your child is not allowed in the splash area, I know it will be disappointing. There are so many other amazing aspects to a resort pool day, and I hope you can help show them the thrill of a waterslide, the joy of playing poolside music trivia, or the simplicity of enjoying an ice cream treat in your swimsuit. Cast Members lead special activities throughout the day for children of all ages, and I know they will have a blast with crafts, relay races using water toys, or a musical water balloon toss challenge.

Whenever I have to share a "no" with my son on vacation, I like to also share a big "yes!" to counteract the inevitable disappointment. Walt Disney World Resort has smiles and thrills of all ages to meet every child where they are in each stage of life. The brand-new coaster, TRON: Lightcycle / Run is opening at Magic Kingdom Park and has a height requirement of at least 48” - I hope your taller child can experience this as a special treat knowing they are now “big kid” enough to experience that exciting attraction if they are unable to play at the splash area.

Please let us know if you have any other questions as you finalize your special trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth, Meghan!

Wishing you a practically perfect vacation,
