How strict is the dinner dress code on the cruise ships? Will it be a problem if the kids are wearing shorts?

    Hey, Sara!

A Disney Cruise is an extra special vacation, and the ships lend themselves to a more formal environment (especially in the evening) than the parks. At dinner in the main restaurants aboard Disney Cruise Line ships, it is requested that guests do not wear shorts, swimwear or tank tops. A more casual atmosphere is available at Cabanas (Dream, Fantasy), Beach Blanket (Wonder) or Topsider (Magic). Then, there are the come-as-you-are options of quick service meals by the pool or room service to your stateroom.

More than likely, if a guest looks like they attempted to dress for dinner -- pressed, coordinated and groomed -- s/he probably won't be asked to change attire. However, I like to consider this an opportunity for the family (including my kids) to follow the guidelines and treat this as the special opportunity that it is. Besides, if the restaurants aboard DCL were located in my hometown and we were going out to dinner as a family, I would require my family to look nice and dress accordingly.

In addition, I love that we are all in one place, dressed nicely and against beautiful backdrops with professional photographers available to us. The family photos from these cruises grace our homes and offices for years to come. I hope that helps you plan.

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
