Ahoy, Jennifer!
Thanks for stopping by the Moms Panel with your question - I'm happy to help!
How awesome to hear your son is an avid runner - at eight years old! I know you must be so proud of him. There's nothing more fun than participating in a run, and crossing the finish line - unless that finish line is in a Disney race! I'm a big fan of runDisney, and love participating in their events. The
Castaway Cay 5K is a special event during select Disney Cruise itineraries, and is held on Disney's own private island! I'm excited to be participating for the first time this February.
While the age limit for the Castaway Cay 5K is ten and up, you can certainly speak with the cruise staff about your son's desire to run the race. Since he's trained and ready, there's a good chance they would allow him to participate! In the past, younger runners have been allowed to take part, but I can't guarantee that is still the norm.
I hope your little runner will get a thumbs-up to run the 5K. Maybe someday we will see him on the winners' stand at the Walt Disney World Marathon!
Please come back and visit if we can help with any other planning questions before you set sail. Have a magical day! - Diane W.
