Welcome to planDisney, Barbara! I'm so glad to be able to answer a question for a fellow Texan today. Dining is my favorite part of a Walt Disney World vacation, so let's chat about the
Dining Plan and what kind of flexibility you'll have when you're using it.
You'll be happy to know that the Steakhouse Cuts section of the menu at
Steakhouse 71 is included as part of the
Disney Dining Plan, so you can definitely enjoy a delicious steak dinner. If you choose to order from the Steakhouse Cuts section of the menu, your meal will include your preferred cut of steak, a side dish of your choice, and one of their signature sauces to accompany it. It's a great option for steak lovers, and it gives you a little flexibility since you can customize your meal with the exact cut, side, and sauce you want.
As for swapping out desserts for appetizers, the Dining Plan doesn't officially allow you to replace your included dessert with an appetizer. The plan is structured so that your table-service meal includes an entrée, a dessert, and a beverage. However, Disney restaurants are known for their flexibility when it comes to making your dining experience as enjoyable as possible, so it never hurts to ask your server what options might be available. At some restaurants, I have swapped my dessert for a soup while using the Dining Plan, but it's not guaranteed, and it really depends on the specific location.
If you do want an appetizer in addition to what's included on the Dining Plan, you're always welcome to order one and pay for it out of pocket. Many guests like doing this, especially when there's a must-try starter on the menu, like the Bacon & Eggs at Steakhouse 71. That way, you'll still maximize your dining plan with a full steak dinner while also getting to sample a little extra if you'd like.
I hope this answers your question, Barbara, and please let us know if we can do anything else to help you plan your magical vacation!
