Hiya, Abby! Thank you for visiting planDisney and asking your question about cheering on a fellow Guest during the
runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend Hakuna Matata 10-Miler.
The
Digital Expo & Event Guide for the weekend's races, specifically the 10-Miler, shows that
Spectator Viewing areas are set up in the EPCOT Rocket Parking Lot for the start of the race and the EPCOT Eve Parking Lot to watch runners cross the finish line. However, from my experience running the Walt Disney World 10K during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, my amazing mom could wake up at
Disney’s Beach Club Resort and watch me run by from the walking path directly outside the lobby.
Since you are staying at
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and the
Hakuna Matata 10-Miler course map is showing the path runners will be taking from EPCOT to
Disney’s BoardWalk, I have two areas I suggest you give a try. Your first option would be to walk from your resort along the International Gateway walking path towards
EPCOT. As runners leave EPCOT, they will come towards you and take a left to cross over the water. You may get the perfect photo opportunity if you can get a spot off the course where the runners are turning. My second suggestion would be to follow the walking path from your resort towards the Walt Disney World Swan. Just behind the
Atlantic Dance Hall and
Jellyrolls, you can possibly view runners leaving Disney’s BoardWalk and turning to begin their trek toward
Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You and the witty sign I am sure you are conjuring up could be a sight for sore eyes (and legs) as they begin mile three of their race. Again, these are just a couple of suggestions. Hopefully, since they are not on the actual course, you can catch a glimpse of your own personal Dash as he or she sprints by!
Don't forget to stop at
Beaches & Cream Soda Shop after the race. After waking up at 2:00 AM or 3:00 AM to run or watch, you both will have earned a delicious milkshake or the Kitchen Sink!
Good luck to you and your runner, Abby!
