We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge. If we are making dinner reservations, how long do we need to allow for travel? What is the best form of transporation and how long will it take to get to each park?

    Hi Stacy,

The Wilderness Lodge is a fabulous resort.  It's my favorite place to stay at Walt Disney World.  Be sure to try out the Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner.  It's a lot of fun!

To get to the Magic Kingdom, you can take a boat that goes directly there.  Based on my experience, I would plan on 30 minutes from your hotel room until you're standing on Main Street.  You can also take a boat to the Contemporary Resort or Fort Wilderness, which makes visiting Trail's End restaurant and the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review very easy.  To get to the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian, I would take a boat to the Contemporary or to the Magic Kingdom and then board the monorail.

To get anywhere else on property, you can drive a car, take a taxi, or use Disney transportation.  Driving a car will be the fastest way.  However, using Disney transportation may be the most relaxing as you can leave the driving to Disney.  For all of the other theme parks, Downtown Disney, etc. you can catch a bus from the Wilderness Lodge.  I personally plan on it taking 45 minutes to get from one place to another; that includes the time needed to wait for the bus as well as the actual driving time.  If I absolutely can't be late, then I reserve one hour.  To get from the Wilderness Lodge to another resort, you will have to transfer at a central location such as a theme park or Downtown Disney.

If you are in a hurry, and you don't want to drive or don't have a car, you should consider taking a taxi.  I have found taxis to be relatively inexpensive and quick when traveling on Walt Disney World property.  When using a taxi, I generally plan on it taking between 20 and 30 minutes depending on whether it is near where I'm at or on the other side of Walt Disney World.

    Have a magical vacation!
