Staying at WDW 11/5/12-11/12/12. How will the Wine & Dine Marathon affect our stay? Parks to avoid on the 9th and 10th? Not coming for the race. Thanks!

    Hi Cynthia,

Other than a slight increase in crowds, I don't think the Wine & Dine 1/2 Marathon will really affect your stay too much at all.  Both the half marathon and the family 5K take place when the parks are closed.  In fact, guests who are not running are usually sleeping when the 5K starts.

I'm not sure where you are staying, but transportation might be a little tricky in the hours leading up to the race.  You'll want to make sure you are not trying to get somewhere on Disney property from about 6:30 - 8:30 on November 10.  From my experience, traffic can be quite heavy as people are traveling from different areas to make it to the race.

On the Sunday after the race, you'll want to arrive at the parks early.  I'm guessing that a lot of race participants and families that cheered them on will be sleeping in that day.  You'll probably see lighter crowds in the morning as a result.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
