We are staying at WDW 2 weeks, to celebrate our son's 10th birthday. We wanted to book the dining plan(DP), but heard menu choices for kids are very limited. Pls Advise if healthy + varied food available on DP for kids+ tips 4 son's birthday. Thank you.

    Hi Emilia,

I'm guessing you won't be surprised that I think Disney is the perfect destination in which to celebrate a tenth, or any birthday!  As for how to celebrate, I suggest booking a special, celebratory dinner.  My boys love character meals.  Chef Mickey's is the quintessential spot to celebrate a birthday along with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto.  Reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance by calling 1-407-939-3463.  If your son is a pirate lover, you might also consider treating him to a pirate makeover at The Pirates League at Magic Kingdom.  My boys had makeovers a while back, and are begging to go back!  Finally, be sure to pick up a free "birthday button" at Guest Relations at whichever park you visit first, and have your son wear it proudly!

As for children's dining options, many guests agree that the children's dining options at Walt Disney World are varied and creative.  In addition, they are healthful options available on each of them, including fresh fruits and vegetables, pasta, grilled meats, etc.  You will find many more options than on a "standard" kids' menu of chicken nuggets and fries.  The independent website allears.net has a very comprehensive list of the Disney dining locations and menus, including specific children's menus.  I encourage you to take a look, and I'm guessing your concerns will be alleviated.

    Happy planning!
