We are staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge in October 2011. How do we arrange to be the flag family? What is involved in the experience? Do kids enjoy it - mine are ages 7, 4 and 2. Thanks.

We have had the privilege of being a Flag Family, and it is really a moving experience -- not to mention the amazing views of the Walt Disney World resort. Being the Flag Family is a popular event, so I recommend that when you check in to the resort to ask the cast member to check the schedule to see if there are any openings.

The ceremony is early in the morning and you'll need to climb quite a few stairs to get to the top (don't look down - you'll be at the top of the lobby!) , but once there the views make it all worth it. You will go through a touching ceremony to help raise the flags followed by a saying of the Pledge of Allegiance.  Then a chance for pictures!  If you visit Youtube and search for Wilderness Lodge Flag Family, you can watch a guest's tape of the ceremony.

Our children were in elementary school/pre-school and enjoyed the ceremony since they were able to help raise the flags.  They also had fun identifying the other parks from the view.

My fingers are crossed for you!
