Hi, we will be staying in a tent at Fort Wilderness 11/24-12/1. My wife's sister told her that there are lots of lizards and snakes in Florida, and that we needed to have our tent sealed up well. Is this a valid concern or nothing to worry about? Thanks.

Hi Vern!  Obviously Florida is a warm temperature state that is conducive to many reptiles and animals that aren't as abundant as up here in the midwest. Residents will tell you that sighting some of these creatures is possible.

Now for my opinion!  My husband and I stay in Fort Wilderness almost every time now that we have gotten a motor coach and we love to travel with our dogs.  We have never had an issue with snakes and actually see little lizards (I mean little....3 inch) only in the bushes when we walk the dogs. They are more afraid of us then we are of them and they are harmless. The only place I have EVER seen a snake on Disney property has been three times and that is at the Yacht and Beach Club!!!! Of course these are not dangerous snakes and very small so again nothing to worry about.

I feel that when camping in a tent or a motor coach anywhere you need to consider having something that can be sealed to other animals.  Your biggest threat to being a nuisance will be the little squirrels who love to scavenge food and also armadillos who will dig around your site. Both are not dangerous but you don't want to encourage them.

I LOVE the Fort Wilderness resort and the tent camping loop is so peaceful and so quiet and full of wonderful great guests. The comfort stations are immaculate and positioned well for all sites. I love walking the dogs in the morning to see the many deer and turkeys out having an early feeding.  After a busy day in the parks you will feel like this is the best resort on property to release your stress!  Have fun and go for it!
