We're staying at All Star Sports Resort in July and have the DDP. We've completed our ADR with 3 character dining events. What is a suggestion for another table service meal that does not require ADR? We're planning on visiting MK, AK, and HS.

    Hi Melissa,

I hope you're having a great time planning your Disney vacation; it will be here before you know it!  July is peak season at Walt Disney World, so you can expect the crowds to be fairly heavy during your stay.  Because of that I recommend making reservations for all of your table service meals.  If you find your plans for the day have changed, you can always call and cancel, but I would hate to think of you being hot, tired and hungry and unable to get into a restaurant to cool off and recharge.

If you still want to try your luck at table service restaurants without having reservations, I recommend going out of the parks to resort restaurants.  Captain's Grille is located in the Yacht Club just a short boat ride from Hollywood Studios.  My sister in-law & I once walked right in and had a quiet, enjoyable lunch while the rest of our party waited for over an hour to get in to Beaches & Cream nearby.  You'll want to try this during "off" hours; in other words don't show up at noon for lunch and expect to be seated; you'll just end up disappointed.

Now, if you're looking for some counter service options, I can share a few of those with you:

Magic Kingdom - Pecos Bills or Cosmic Rays
Hollywood Studios - Pizza Planet or ABC Commissary
Animal Kingdom - Flame Tree Barbecue or there is a new Picnic in the Park available.  Just stop by the podium located at the entrance to the park.  A cast member will give you a menu and you can choose to have a hot or cold picnic lunch for 3 or more people.  After choosing your main course, sides and desserts you will be given a slip of paper and a time for which to pick your meal up at Kusifari.  This usually takes 2 hours to process, so order early.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
