Mom and daughter shopping

We're staying at Shades of Green and will purchase or reactivate magic bands. Can I set up a charge account to the magic bands so that I don't have to carry cash or a credit card?

    Hi Tami!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Mine is a Military family too, and actually, I stayed at Shades of Green for the first time recently. I couldn't believe what I had been missing all these vacations!

Not-so-technically speaking, MagicBands, the often brightly colored and sometimes character covered pieces of wearable tech, sync up to two very connected, yet very different systems: the first being your My Disney Experience profile, and the other is whatever program the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels use. No matter where you stay when you come to see Mickey and his pals, your MagicBand will always link to your My Disney Experience profile to serve as your Disney Theme Park admission ticket, access your FastPass+ reservations, and save any photos taken by a Disney PhotoPass photographer. It's kind of like the ultimate vacation organizer.

However, the only way to charge purchases with your band is as guest on an active reservation at any Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. Disney Dining Plans also connect to the same system, which is why they too are only available for Disney Resort Hotel guests.

I don't super love to carry a lot into Disney's parks, either, so instead of bringing a credit card or cash, I usually buy Disney Gift Cards and only bring a few with me each day. When I know I'll need a larger amount, I'll buy Disney's Electronic Gift Cards, because while I may not want to keep up with a wallet or bag, I'll always have my phone. I either keep these e-cards in my email or save a screen shot to my photo album, so I don't have to worry about Wi-Fi connectivity. I've never had a Cast Member not be able to scan or manually type in a Disney E-Gift Card, and the only place I know of that won't accept a Disney Gift Card is the AMC Dine-In Theatre in Disney Springs.

And pro tip: If you do go the multiple gift cards route, number them on the barcode side, 1 through whatever. This way you'll know you used all the funds on that card, and you won't get mixed up with which card is which.

I hope this helped a bit, Tami, and We'll See you Real Soon!
