We will be staying at Port Orleans Riverside resort in August 2014. What are the best transportation options to get to the parks? Is it necessary to go through the TTC or can you go direct from the hotel?

Hi Michele! Port Orleans is one of our favorite resorts while staying at Walt Disney World. I love the ambience and location.

You will be able to reach all four of the parks as well as the two water parks via the Disney bus transportation. There will be buses with the park names listed and signage at the bus area that will assist you in which to go on. They will take you directly to the parks and often the entrance is mere steps away. The Animal Kingdom and Epcot bus areas are a bit of a walk but nothing horrible. The Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios bus areas are directly at the front entrance to their parks. You will not have to change at the Transportation and Ticket Center to reach the four theme parks and two water parks. During busy times of year you might have to wait a bit longer but in general a bus to each location will come along about every 15-20 minutes.

To reach Downtown Disney I suggest you take the boats that leave from the Port Orleans dock again about every 20 minutes. There is major construction going on in Downtown Disney right now so suggest you avoid driving a car or taking a taxi due to congestion. Of course by August things might be better but they are doing a long term improvement of the area that includes building a parking garage so it will take some time.
