We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside from 8/16 - 8/21 (leaving mid morning) with DH, DD10 and 3 and DS 7. I am trying to figure out which parks we should hit on which days and trying to figure out if we should use the magic hours for the parks.

    Hi Lisa,

Port Orleans Riverside is a great resort!  It has a relaxed atmosphere, and downtown Disney is just a boat ride away!

Which park to visit on each day?  Do you have a Park Hopper, and do you have a bunch of early risers in your family?  If the answer to both of those questions is "yes", then you may want to start your day at a park that has extra magic hours (EMH)  in the morning.  You'd be surprised how much you can see in that short hour before the regular opening - plus it gives you an extra hour of bearable temperatures.  Remember that August in Orlando is HOT.  Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen and take a break during the afternoon hours.

After the park you're in begins to get crowded, spend the rest of the day in another park. If you don't have Park Hopper passes, choose the second park I list for each day:

    • 8/16- Sunday is crowded in all parks.  Head over to the Magic Kingdom and enjoy the parades & fireworks on this evening.  Consider making dining reservations at Whispering Canyon in the Wilderness Lodge, 'Ohana at the Polynesian, or Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary - all of these restaurants are easy to get to via boat or monorail, and it's fun to see different resorts.
    • 8/17- EMH at Hollywood Studios then EPCOT
    • 8/18 - EMH at Magic Kingdom then Hollywood Studios
    • 8/19- EMH at Animal Kingdom and stay here all day.
    • 8/20- EMH at Magic Kingdom then EPCOT (Hollywood Studios if you plan on seeing Fantasmic! Keep in mind it will be crowded, but it's a great show!)
    • 8/21-You probably won't have time to explore any parks.  Magical Express usually picks you up 3 hours before your flight.
Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!
