We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside Feb/09. Do the rooms have a balcony or patio or access outside the room, other than a hallway? We are travelling with young kids (who isn't) and thinking about quiet bedtime and what we do while they fall asleep.

    This is a great question.

While remembering all the different ways that my hubby and I dealt with this situation, I also had a good chuckle.

My son would fall asleep once the room was completely dark and his ocean sound machine was playing. Once he was asleep, we could turn the lights on, watch TV and talk. Nothing woke him up!

At Port Orleans Riverside, you will have exterior corridors. The door to your room exits on to an outdoor hallway. I have seen some families bring their chairs outside! There is no other outdoor access.

Here are some of the ways that we have handled this "can't wait until he falls asleep" ordeal:

    - one of us stays in the room and reads in the bathroom while the other goes to shop at the gift store or just to take a walk. Then, we switch!
    - we attempt to read using book lights
    - we sit in the dark in the vanity area with the privacy curtain closed
    - we decide to lie quietly in the dark and then realize that we are just as tired as our little boy
    - I sit in the dark answering email

Alas, the best news is that our son is usually so wiped out in WDW that falling asleep takes mere moments. The only place my son has napped in the last several years is in hotel rooms. Just this past September, Mr. 8 fell asleep while "relaxing" in our Grand Floridian room. Of course, he was only relaxing because he would never admit to being sleepy. Right in the middle of playing with a Star Wars character and the next thing ya know, Mr. 8 is actually napping. A few days later,  he "relaxed" again in our Saratoga Springs room.

Pack a small flashlight and/or book light!
